Patented drying technology
The air dehumidifiers from HSR Heutrocknung are protected by several patents (e.g. European patent application 14194496.7 and European patent application 17156316.6). These patents guarantee to our customers that when they invest in a HSR air dehumidifier, they are investing in a unique product.
Two product series to meet your requirements
HSR Heutrocknung offers two product lines.
The VARIO ELITE design for hay professionals. In this model the air dehumidifier's compressor capacity is powered with a design ratio of 3:1 to the fan. The result is high capacity and persuasive success in drying even in adverse weather conditions.
The mountain farm module in accordance with ÖKL. As well as the VARIO ELITE series, we also offer the cost-effective VARIO ECO series. This has been developed specifically for farmers with relatively small grassland areas. A cost-effective control system ensures a commensurate reduction in price without foregoing many of the advantages of the ELITE series. In this model the air dehumidifier's compressor capacity is powered with a design ratio of 1:1 to the fan. The allocation of compressor capacity to the box surface is based on scientific studies by the ÖKL (Austrian Council for Agricultural Engineering and Rural Development).

Drying of loose hay, round bales
and other agricultural products for drying
HSR hay drying plant has been specifically developed for the drying of loose hay and round bales. Over the years we have responded to customer enquiries by making repeated adaptations to software and hardware, with the result that today we can offer systems for drying maize, cereals, herbs and waste. In addition, wood chips, tea, tobacco, manure and much more can be dried. More information on the drying of loose hay, round bales, horse hay and other agricultural products to be dried is available in the respective blog articles.
0.36 kW/h per litre evaporated water
For the use of 1kW/h of energy in a measurement series of 28°C – 2.787 litres condensate could be eliminated. This value is derived from the Hasenbichler Report, AZ 70CG11/17, dated 14 December 2018. This value has been achieved with a HSR SR30 second generation air dehumidifier. The significant success factors for this fantastic drying result are the specifically coated and deeply incised lamellae and the lamella distance of 2 mm. These are two features shared by all HSR driers as from the second generation. Wider lamella cause increased air flow with no condensation. More information on the Hasenbichler Report is available on our blog.
As well as the Hasenbichler Report, which was undertaken in the Buchs Experimental Laboratory in Switzerland, we can also fall back on numerous scientific works on hay-making. For example, for many years now the Raumberg-Gumpenstein Research Institute in Styria has been undertaking scientific comparative studies of field-cured hay, cold ventilation, warm ventilation (drying by air dehumidifier), etc. Since 2010 HSR air dehumidifiers have been used for the warm ventilation. Last hay season drying results of less than 0.36 kW/h per litre evaporated water were successfully achieved. In the third generation of our drying systems many of the actions performed by the operator are fully automated, such as a fully automatic shutter bypass valve, in order to achieve these drying results. More information on the successful drying results during the 2019 hay season is available on our hay blog (this article in German only).

Air dehumidifiers for 3 to several hundred ha grassland
Currently, HSR constructs air dehumidifiers in twenty different sizes, which provides the perfect equipment for farms with from 3 to several hundred ha of grassland. Our smallest air dehumidifier is configured for hay boxes with a surface area of up to 30 m² (maximum fill level 3 metres) and our currently largest hay drying system is designed for hay boxes of up to 700 m² (maximum fill level 3 metres). The different sizes are primarily differentiated by the capacity of the compressor and by the face area of the air dehumidifier (= surface of the lamellae).

A range of decisive factors affect success in drying in the long term.
- Correct size
Karl Neuhofer, a founder member of the ARGE Heumilch [Hay milk work group] and for many years its Chairman, once said, “A hay drying plant, which is of the correct size, proves its worth for the farmer." Our competent sales team will advise you without obligation. - Correct air flow
Even the most powerful hay drying plant cannot be efficient, if it is unable to use its full capacity because of constructional defects. Incorrect air flow, unwanted air escapes in the fan chamber or in the pressure channel, cross-sections, which are too small, etc. prevent efficient drying. The HSR planning team and comprehensive planning documentation assist you further with the structural requirements. - Correct use
Studies from the Raumberg-Gumpenstein Research Institute prove that a major factor in the efficiency of a hay drying plant is its correct use. One example of this is switching it off at the right time. As soon as the relative humidity in the drying hall has fallen below 50%, the plant can be switched over to cool-down operation. If this is not done at the right time, energy is neeedlessly used in the drying process. Appropriate preliminary drying of the material in the field greatly reduces the drying process and the drying costs. HSR Heutrocknung offer annual customer training for these and other tips. We extend a cordial invitation to you for the next training session. The forthcoming schedules are available in the Trade Fair Calendar. - Correct maintenance
Regular cleaning and an appropriate air conditioning service in accordance with the Service Manual are the basic prerequisites for the smooth operation of your hay drying plant.
With the new Vario Elite air dehumidifier we provide a high end solution, which continuously adjusts the air dehumidifier to the current conditions and the power requirement from the fan thanks to the integral frequency converter. This means that the cooling system cannot ice up and the machine stops switching off because the temperature is too high.
The specially coated and deeply incised lamellae, together with the lamella distance of 2 mm guarantee particularly high condensate elimination. Wider lamellae would cause increased through-flow of the air and the condensate would not be eliminated.
The face area of the air dehumidifier heat pump is derived from the resulting maximum volume of air over the fan. This maximum volume of air must not exceed an airspeed of 4 m/s during air dehumidification (face area in the evaporator).
The VARIO air dehumidifier series has a variable rotational speed control for the compressor (by means of the frequency converter), in order to achieve the optimum operating point in given conditions and to prevent the evaporator from icing up. The dehumidifier has a digitalised, temperature-controlled automatic air conditioning system (CPC regulation), which automatically increases the heat output in low temperatures. As a result the temperature in the interior air operation builds up and facilitates the final drying of the hay even at lower outdoor temperatures. All of this is regulated fully automatically by the integral VARIO Comfort control system.
