The largest hay drying system in the world – installed in Great Britain
All has begun with a telephone call from UK. The British entrepreneur, Alexander Maddan, was seeking for a modern and stable hay crane. It should also be very flexible in an industrial labyrinthine, with many concrete columns building and able to lift heavy loads. The decision for a hay crane of HSR was made very quickly. He needs this crane in Hong Kong, where it will be supplied soon and will work there.
As it turned out during the conversation, the family of Alexander Maddan has an own farm with some horses in England, near Oxford. In the last years we could collect many experiences in production of high-quality hay also for horses, Alexander’s interest was quickly aroused. As a man of action, he got into the car and drove 40 hours in a van from England to our own show farm in the idyllic Fissltal (near Salzburg, Austria). There he convinced himself of the hay quality with his own eyes, visited the HSR customers, Karl Neuhofer (Chairman of the ARGE hay milk – organization for marketing of milk produced from cows, they have only hay, not silage) and Franz Fink (acting hay master – the best hay in Austria). He took more bags of that hay, for giving his horses a sample of this hay. He also had the hay examined by a laboratory.
When he returned to UK, Alexander was clear: This hay can capture all of UK. And so became of a small installation, the SR 50 for his own horses, the greatest HSR hay drying system of the world. The SR 300, with an airflow surface of 21 square meters, and a possible volume of the boxes of nearly 4.000 cubic meters, to dry in one charge in two different hay boxes. Over the next years, Alexander will change the fields more and more for producing dried hay from the installation with this SR 300 - dehumidifier drying system. He also will produce and offer this hay also for small animals (for example rabbits and guinea pigs). This hay will be sold over the wholesalers.
For the control of this system, Alexander Maddan uses the newest developed, high performance, control system of HSR; VARIO ELITE PLUS, that is able to control up to 4 fans and 2 dehumidifiers (or one dehumidifier with two compressors). In addition, it can control up to twelve hay boxes with up to 30 intervals. The output takes place on a high-resolution display and via the HSR Connect module we can also help Alexander Maddan from Salzburg, as if we were on site with him. Quick help without travel costs is thus guaranteed.
The world’s largest HSR hay drying system was commissioned at the end of May 2021 by our system architect Lambert Höllbacher and our PLC programmer Christopher. The photos of the commissioning, the dimensions of the world’s largest HSR hay drying, and the first days of drying can be seen in the following pictures. We wish Alexander Maddan much success and joy with his new hay drying system. We will visit him again towards the end of the hay season and then let us know how his feedback on the season is filling out.
Until then, we wish you a great summer and a profitable hay harvest.
