It has been over a year since Lars & Ingrid Steunebrink, a flagship company from Ontario, switched to state-of-the-art hay drying technology at HSR Heutrocknung. We would like to take this circumstance as an opportunity to look a little over the shoulders of the family business in the second generation and to explain a bit about their experiences with the drying system of HSR.
Lars Steunebrink emigrated to Ontario (Canada) with his parents and siblings nearly 20 years ago. The family ran a pig farm for 15 years, which they decided to sell because of the fluctuating meat prices. In 2003 Lars met his wife Ingrid. Together, they decided to switch to goats after the sale of the family swine farm.
With the switch to goats, a modern hayloft and a milking parlor for 100 goats was built. In order to find the right hay drying for this project, the family Steunebrink started a long and intensive search. After visiting numerous farmers who had already been using a HSR Heutrocknung drying system for several years and comparing the drying results with drying technology from other manufacturers, Josef Reindl's drying technology was chosen.
"HSR products are of very high quality and tested on their own farm. HSR was ready to sell and service their product abroad, which was not the case with other companies "- this is how Lars Steunebrink describes the final decision to purchase his dryer.
In addition to the forage quality, Lars & Ingrid's strength is also being decisive. The fine weather phase in Canada has significantly reduced in recent decades, that's why it was inevitable to find a drying solution in which the hay can be taken of the field as quickly as possible. With the short field time, more nutrients remain in the hay and the loss of nutrients is reduced to a minimum. This leads to healthier animals and secures the future of Lars & Ingrid's farm and makes the operation economically successful.
With an SR150 dehumidifier and an SR1400 fan with 80 kW for two hay boxes (325 m² and 280 m²), the largest drying system of HSR was acquired. The powerful HSR hay crane 125.28 ensures smooth running when entering and distributing. To guarantee a low failure rating, the farm has its own generator set.
A few farmers in the area already had a haydryer tour, all of them noting the excellent hay quality. Lars & Ingrid already received their first inquiries about purchasing hay, so the excellent quality has made the rounds. Lars & Ingrid's hay, which they do not need all themselves, can be sold profitably at any time.
Today, Lars & Ingrid milk 550 goats and run 89 ha of grassland, as well as 111 ha of arable land, which they manage together.
